Nicolas Van Damme

Nicolas Van Damme graduated as Master of Laws at the KU Leuven (2013). He also obtained a PhD in law on the distinction between law evasion and law avoidance at the same University (2020). Between 2015 and 2021, he was a full-time member of the KU Leuven Institute for Contract Law where, among other things, he gave tutorials and seminars on real estate law and supervised the drafting of master's theses on contract law and negotiation and mediation. Nicolas is also a professor at ULB and at UCLouvain-Saint-Louis Bruxelles where he teaches insurance law and economic law in French and Dutch respectively.

Nicolas handles public contract cases in the broad sense, with a particular focus on complex issues of real rights and contract law. He regularly provides assistance and advice in public-private partnerships (PPPs), public real estate and its complex real rights structures, as well as in contract law.

Nicolas was already a lawyer at the Brussels Bar between 2013 and 2015, where he worked for a Brussels first-tier business firm (Liedekerke Wolters Waelbroeck Kirkpatrick). There he handled a multitude of national and international cases for companies and public authorities in the broad field of contract and real estate law. In 2015, he swapped the business law practice for an academic career at KU Leuven where he eventually obtained a PhD in law, before joining Tender Law.

Nicolas is also a much sought-after speaker in the aforementioned specialist areas and regularly publishes (books and contributions) in these fields in various languages.
