Lieven Demolder

Lieven Demolder graduated as a Master of Bioengineering Sciences (2009) and also obtained an additional degree in General Economics (2010) at Ghent University. Since then, he has held various roles in the energy and sustainability sector, working both as an advisor to governments and sector organisations and as a consultant in various sustainability projects. Since 2017, he has worked as a project manager at Clean Energy Innovative Projects, where he contributed, among other things, to the innovative water purification and energy system of the residential district “Nieuwe Dokken” in Ghent. Since January 2024, he has combined this position with a research assignment at Ghent University, where he studies the role of standardisation in promoting industrial symbiosis. Throughout his career, Lieven has built extensive experience in applying for and implementing regional and European research and innovation projects. In doing so, his work has consistently linked scientific research with sustainable development, and he has frequently been invited as a guest speaker for various guided tours and guest lectures. In September 2021, he was appointed lecturer in Sustainable Construction at HOGENT University of Applied Sciences. In addition, Lieven also has a strong passion for sustainable entrepreneurship and the cooperative economy. For example, he volunteered during the launch of various cooperative and social initiatives such as the citizen energy cooperative Energent, and in 2024 he was also appointed as a board member of Cera CV, one of the largest cooperatives in Belgium.
